The Emirates: Global Good Will

Social Studies / Geography – Grades 6–9

Since becoming an independent country in 1971, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has gone through a fast and impressive transformation. It has developed into a modern, diverse economy and has become an important country in the world.

The UAE is known for supporting peace and helping others. It is one of the most generous countries when it comes to giving aid. Since 2021, Yemen—a country experiencing war—has received over $435 million in aid from the UAE.

The UAE’s generosity reaches beyond the Middle East. When war broke out in Ukraine, the UAE donated $100 million to help civilians affected by the conflict.

After massive floods in Pakistan, the UAE created an “air bridge” to deliver food and medical supplies worth $13 million, helping about 500,000 families. The UAE also helped victims of an earthquake in Afghanistan by sending planes filled with hospital supplies and advanced medical equipment.

This spirit of helping others is part of the UAE’s long-term vision and smart investments. From rebuilding war-torn areas to leading efforts in climate change and economic innovation, the UAE shows how kindness and progress can work together. The UAE sets an example for the world, showing the power of unity, vision, and generosity.

Helping Gaza: Treating the Wounded

In addition to global aid, the UAE is providing critical help in Gaza. Fifteen injured Palestinians—including eight children—were flown to Abu Dhabi for medical treatment.

The UAE has become one of the main countries offering humanitarian help in Gaza since the war began. It has:

  • Opened field hospitals
  • Donated hundreds of millions of dollars for food and medicine
  • Welcomed hundreds of injured and sick Palestinians for treatment

Among the first patients were people with serious injuries and even a cancer patient. These patients arrived after UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed promised to treat 1,000 Palestinians in UAE hospitals. More flights are expected to bring patients daily.
